Why we love Fantasy Football, when Fantasy Football does not love us?
It’s almost Fantasy Football seaon. Who is your number 1?
So, it’s just about our favorite time of the year when summer is at its peak and Football starts the following month. While you are watching TV a Fantasy Football commercial comes on and you call your buddy Greg to hit him with the all-important question. Who are you drafting first? The number of times I’ve heard this is more than my overall winnings from playing fantasy. That number is zero. Yet I keep coming back to the game that eats my money and gives me stress bald spots. I’m sure that most of you reading can second that.
Everybody needs a good hobby no matter how potential risky it can be. With all the draft strategies and player rankings we study preseason, it can make you feel as though you know what you are doing. Until your 1st round pick is out for the season due to a knee injury. Fun fact, running back Johnathan Taylor never missed a game due to injury in his entire football career through high school, college and the pros. He sat weeks 5 and 6 due to an ankle injury. That’s a prime example of how Football injuries are unforgiving and ruthless. Or let’s discuss how we find a receiver matchup against one of the weakest secondary’s in the league. Then our top 10 receiver delivers us the infamous dud (my term for a game with 9 points or less scored). It’s crazy how we put so much time, effort and money into a game that shows us no love and is so dependent on good fortune. Would you just call that gambling?
So, is Fantasy Football just a glorified way of gambling? Some could say that, but I would like to think that we are participating in something much bigger. There is no doubt that it is empowering being the owner, general manager and coach of your own Football team. When Greg asks the big question, you will be more than excited to say, “I’m rolling the dice on Christian McCaffrey this year in the first round.” The draft is arguably the most exhilarating event of the year that can truly make or break your fantasy season. You can hype it with a party of your peers with wings, beer, and the best trash talking you’ve been saving all year. Hopefully you don’t experience the heart break when you realize your team never stood a chance. With all I just hope any brilliant trades or waiver pickups you make are so satisfying that they outweigh the money you are investing into someone else’s holiday fund. We play Fantasy Football for the fun. We play for the trash talk and strategic moves we must make over the season. I just have one thing to ask from Fantasy Football. Fantasy Football would you please show me love in any of my three leagues this year? I can promise that we love you.
